PROPER CARE
Inspecting Your Bushings*EASY*
Inspect your bushings every six months as follows:
- Park the vehicle on level ground with the engine OFF, the parking brake engaged, and the transmission in PARK (for automatic) or REVERSE (for manual).
- Crawl under your car and locate all relevant bushings from your owner's manual. Pay particular attention to those on the upper control arm, lower control arm, strut rod (if applicable), stabilizer bar (if applicable), and shock absorbers (front and rear).
- Wipe the bushings clean. Use a flashlight to look for cracks. If bushings are worn or cracked, they may cause a connected part to vibrate and become damaged. Bushings should not be hard or dry. Worn bushings (and associated parts) should be replaced by a professional automotive technician.
- Spray the rubber bushings with a silicone-based lubricant (the same one used for the weather strip). This will slow future wear and stop squeaks.
